Keiki Hula Implement Series (Ages 8-14)

Students will learn an implement medley that incorporates 4 different hula instruments. This vigorous hula class will challenge young dancers in fun ways! Implements (not included) are ʻuliʻuli (feathered gourds), ipu (gourd), puʻili (split bamboo), and ʻiliʻili (smooth pebbles). There will be opportunities for dancers to perform.

Circus camp is intended to inspire a healthy lifestyle and cultivate the whole child: body, mind emotions and spirit. The circus arts uniquely cultivate the qualities of concentration and balance. Circus Club for Life Skills with Regina Lumsden

They approach every activity from an imaginative, playful image – such as going to the zoo, the playground or outer space! Unbeknownst to themselves, the children develop their ability to focus, integrate the right and left hemispheres of their brains and increase their eye/hand coordination. She gives us sensations from the Dance Arts: Jazz, Modern and Duncan; from the Martial Arts: Tai Chi, Aikido and Tai Kwon Do; and from the Healing Arts: Yoga, Feldenkrais and Alexander Technique.

Kumu Malia has an affinity for teaching young children.  For the last decade she has developed lessons specific to infants, toddlers and preschool aged keiki. She also enjoys sharing classic hula and songs with the elderly. In keeping with her tradition, she is an observant and reverent student of nature and keeper of the land - the 'aina.

Wednesdays at 4-5 pm - April 10 to May 29, 2019. As parents, we can help our children become winners. The Danger Stranger program brings self-confidence, discipline and positive self-image. Keiki learn to to recognize, anticipate and avoid situations with dangerous strangers and bullies at school.

Your child will earn movements designed to enhance body tone and provide safe self-defense. They will improve their speed, precision, strength and agility.

The program will conclude with a simulated exercise to give your child the confidence to know they can now respond effectively to threatening strangers or bullies. And they will earn a medal!
