Taking Control of Your Diabetes is a not-for-profit organization founded and directed by Dr. Edelman. Dr. Edelman himself was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 15 and has lived well with the disease for over four decades. He has not let this diagnosis or diabetes define him: he has ‘Claimed his Magnificence,’ as we say at Still & Moving Center!  We salute Dr. Edelman and his dedication to the TCCYD mission to educate, empower and inspire people with diabetes to live a healthy, happy, and productive life.

At Still & Moving Center, this time of year is about Claiming Your Magnificence. Your workshop leaders will guide you through moving meditation practices and inner reflections. You will craft your personal action plan  – suited to your needs, for your unique health and wellness – moving forward into 2016.

may del rosarioLet your spirit float on the airborne wave of colored ribbon that you dip and twirl around yourself. Your ribbon will animate space with life, excitement, color and energy. Moving with May – a personal trainer with 20 years of ballet – is always an invigorating experience!

From an effective dance warm-up, you’ll begin learning some ribbon handling techniques. Ribbon dancing includes traveling movements, pivots, leaps, balances and spirals. After learning some choreographed dance sequences, you will add the ribbons. From there May will determine the blocking of your ribbon dance according to the number of participants. Voilà! You’ve learned a complete ribbon dance! Remember your choreography in case you’d like to participate in one of our later performances at Still & Moving Center or beyond!

Improve your range of motion, strengthen, sculpt, tone, improve your core conditioning and overall mind-body balance. Your encouraging teacher, May, includes both seated and standing dance movements, using the therapy band and light weights. She emphasizes awareness, function and conditioning. Great for all levels.

may del rosarioMoving with May – a personal trainer with over 20 years of ballet, sports fitness and martial arts – is always an invigorating experience! She’s fun, encouraging, challenging and professional. This lady has shared her extensive knowledge of fitness through movement in medical, spa, studio and gym environments. Her classes are for everyone: from uber athletes, to pau hana workers wanting a kick-it-up class, to folks struggling with obesity, to fragile seniors seeking to regain their health. May provides personal fitness sessions, nutrition and weight management counseling. Her group fitness teaching experience includes aerobics, turbo kickboxing, ballet, strength training, power cycling, fitness for the unfit, to name a few. Her energy is absolutely contagious to her students!
