Both Feldenkrais and Qigong agree that for our Chi/Energy to flow well, we need to drop straining and striving and apply awareness and breath. The similarities of Feldenkrais Method and Taoist understandings of the body allow for the two practices to enhance each other greatly – whether on our feet, on a mat or in a chair.

In this workshop you’ll find the right alignment of your spine for the energy centers in your body to naturally open. As you gain an easy alignment of your spine, feet and knees, your standing and sitting become simple in any situation. Your back feels better. You enhance any meditative practice, whether sitting, in Tai Chi or Qigong, etc. If you do not know anything about Tai Chi or Qigong this may be a good intro.

Dr Feldenkrais, a black belt judoka in France, applied abstract eastern concepts into a palpable western method of moving that enhanced his judo and helped him to overcome a serious knee injury.

The diaphragm is not just for breathing and eyes are not only important for seeing! Through easy and gentle movements as prescribed in the Feldenkrais Method, we can learn to recognize and eliminate many of the common habits that interfere with easy, effortless vision, deep breathing and good spinal organization. This workshop will focus on the diaphragm/lungs, neck, 7th cervical and eyes.

The 7th cervical is a key vertebrae with many nerves going down the arms and the spine.

Dr. Feldenkrais once said: ‘We would not have neck problems if our lungs would glide freely’.

The diaphragm is a large muscle in the center of our body that is badly understood and neglected.

As often it does not move well enough it is not only hampering oxygen intake but also pulls on the chest and neck.

The 7th cervical vertebrae needs to be able to communicate with the diaphragm for a free neck!

Because the movement of our eyes organizes the movements of our body, our vision impacts and interacts with every movement we make throughout our whole body, as well as how we feel and think.

Vision is the primary sense through which we experience the world. Through easy and gentle movements as prescribed in the Feldenkrais Method, we can learn to recognize and eliminate many of the most common habits that interfere with easy,

When our breathing is held or frozen, our eyes will be held and fixed and our neck tense.

Less is More: The Feldenkrais Method® and Smart Moves

Whenever we act or exercise with unnecessary effort and force, our neuromuscular system organizes defensively to protect us from potential danger and damage. In this way, over the course of our lives, we build up conflicting patterns of anxiety and strain throughout our body/mind and the muscles of our eyes, patterns that become habitual and unconscious. Try as we might, we cannot release this strain by force of will. We know for ourselves that with habits we want to change, the more we try to resist or change the habit, the less effective we feel and the stronger the habit becomes. We don’t know why, but somehow we feel tangled up in knots.

The secret to success is that we learn, through guided Smart Moves and Feldenkrais lessons, that the less effort we exert, the greater the change and improvement. As we become more discriminating and sensitive to our internal sensations, we can feel the knots as tangible resistance to effortless movement. We can then knowingly, and with great precision, chose to release otherwise inaccessible strain and tension. We learn how to untangle the tangle.

Eyes are not only important for seeing and the Jaw troubles can be dealt with!

Because the movement of our eyes organizes the movements of our body, our vision impacts and interacts with every movement we make throughout our whole body, as well as how we feel and think.

Vision is the primary sense through which we experience the world. Unfortunately, the quality and clarity of our vision can weaken and degrade over time or we have developed bad habits of tension already early on. However, through easy and gentle movements as prescribed in the Feldenkrais Method, we can learn to recognize and eliminate many of the most common habits that interfere with easy, effortless vision and good spinal organization.  We can also learn new skills that transform the use of our eyes, helping us to see more clearly.

As our thoughts move busily here and there, our eyes respond and move busily here and there.

When our neck and posture is tight and tense, our eyes will be tight and tense.

When our breathing is held or frozen, our eyes will be held and fixed.

When our jaw is tight our eyes and neck are tight.

As above so below if the jaw is tight the pelvis and iliac sacral joint tends to be tight.

This Training will not only give you a vision improvement but the practical knowledge and skills necessary to help yourself or individuals who suffer from jaw pain or dysfunction, which is often linked to seemingly unrelated challenges, including migraine headaches and eye strain. When the jaw releases the neck improves and even shoulder pain can subside.

The by-product of this form of training is a relaxed body, easy breathing and a quiet clear mind. Movements feel fluid.

This Intensive is a wonderful opportunity to get informed and learn to release tension by effortless

movements that are done lying down and were called by Tai Chi Master Yan Yang, NYC

‘Lying down Qigong’!

With these wonderful exercises people have healed severe vision problems like in the case of Toronto based Feldenkrais Practitioner David Webber http://www.feldenkraiscentre.com/pdfs/DWebberArticle.pdf

The 3rd training day of this series takes place March 25 adding lungs and diaphragm.

Intro to this series on Saturday, Mar 7. Attend Intro session & 3 Day Intensive for the special price of $125

We like to walk, and some like to dance, hike, run, swim, golf or surf. For all these activities we need a functional healthy spine and joints: ankles, hips and strong, yet flexible feet. With these playful Feldenkrais® movements we can accomplish just that!

This 3 day Feldenkrais® Intensive is an in depth immersion into the specialized theme that you don’t get in a single class. Better yet, you get to keep on learning and improving for 3 consecutive days: this makes changing harmful habits even more efficient. The different movement lessons within each workshop approach the theme from different angles, so that you will leave with a well-rounded experience and all parts of yourself will benefit.

eva feldenkrais seriesThe Feldenkrais Method®, which has been called ‘Lying Down Qigong’ by Qigong Master Yang Yang, is a very advanced approach to body-mind healing that uses awareness, learning and exact knowledge of brain and movement functioning. Students often notice a big change and improvement of their wellbeing right after the first workshop. The movements you learn can be repeated at home. Attending the whole series will give your system an even better chance to change old dysfunctional habits and learn new possibilities and improve in all areas of your life, not just physical.

Feet, Head and Neck Alignment – 6:30 – 8:45 pm on Friday, Mar 13

In this workshop we will do Awareness through Movement® lessons that will help you to undo neck tension. You learn about finding a better alignment and refined awareness to prevent reoccurring tension. We also will take a good look at our feet and their alignment so that when you take a step you can lengthen your neck and walk like a Queen or King!

Happy Ankles & Knees: Functional and Balanced  – 2:00 – 5:15 pm on Saturday, Mar 14

You can prevent or reduce joint damage and pain in ankles, knees and neck. Precise movement coordination is of vital importance to prevent inflammation and to help your joints heal. Did you know that the wellness of your knees has something to do with how balanced you hold your head? Knees of course have to work in tandem with well functioning hip joints and ankles. These Feldenkrais® lessons will help you improve mobility and movement function. You also learn how to organize the spine and neck muscles so that the weight will be distributed more evenly over your knees!

Functional Hip joints, Flexible Pelvis and Strong Lower Back – 4:45 – 7:00 pm on Sunday, Mar 15

Learn to make better use of the powerhouse of your locomotion: your hip-pelvis-lower back connection. The hip joints are part of the pelvis. The psoas muscle connects the legs to the lower back through the pelvis. Opening the hip flexors in this workshop increases healthy mobility and prevents hip damage. These Feldenkrais® movements enable you to sense the connection of your legs into your pelvis and torso so that all parts work together for powerful, flexible movement!

We are going to refine our perception about HOW we walk, our awareness about the series of events that follow one another, joint by joint, and the different organizations that allow us to move forward as well as to the side, backward and up and down the hills. Your lower back will also benefit.

Sept 6Functional Happy Ankles, Knees & Hip Joints: Learn how to take care of your knees and hip joints, prevent damage or reduce damage already done. In fact Dr. Feldenkrais created this method because he had a very injured and arthritic knee. He was able to get back to walking and Judo without surgery by creating and practicing these simple movement lessons! Knees of course have to work in tandem with well-functioning hip joints and ankles. These Feldenkrais® lessons will help you improve mobility. They will organize ligaments and muscles around the joints and distribute their workload correctly to have you walking or dancing with more ease.

Sept 27 – Flexible Ribcage for Good Knees, Elegant Walking & Easy Breathing: This workshop helps improve running, walking, hiking, dancing and even tennis and golfing! It is great for hula dancers! It will feel like a vacation for your bigger joints! Your ribs are the ‘bumpers’ for your knees. If the ribcage is stiff, there is little elasticity for your walk and little shock absorption for any unevenness of the ground. Help your thoracic spine to move in harmony with your legs and pelvis and do a counter-rotation for stabilization. Breathe easy!
