The results of practicing the ELDOA Method are a sense of ease in your body, especially in your back, improved posture, and an overall sense of well-being. This practice promotes independence. You will learn how to relieve, heal and strengthen your own spine!

A French Osteopath named Guy Voyer created ELDOA to eradicate back pain. Using the body’s fascial chains and the principle of tensegrity, the postures of ELDOA set up specific lines of traction to open up spaces in our spinal column as well as shoulders, hips and ribs. Marla blends this powerful practice with yogic breathing and gentle stretches.

Many of Marla’s Eldoa students feel relief from pain after other approaches have failed them. They leave class feeling relaxed, empowered and taller. They understand her clear instruction with images that help them to remember the movements. Students sleep better, move more easily, and improve their posture!

What Marla’s students are saying:

“Marla has an incredible understanding of the body as well as the generosity and intelligence to communicate her knowledge in a way that can be shared with others.”

-Lesley Telford

“Marla is a great instructor and an amazing, kind person. I attend both her yoga and Eldoa classes. I particularly like the unique stretches and posture focus Marla has for my computer neck!”

-Jeff Appelbe

“As a chiropractor, with a broken lumbar vertebra, I’m very picky about who I let treat my body or provide me with exercises. When I heard about Marla’s ELDOA in Vancouver, I had to check it out. Apparently, Tiger Woods has used this technique to help him with his spine, so it had to be valuable, right? Right. Marla is very professional, knows her functional anatomy, and is an excellent teacher. Even with my 20 years in practice, she taught this old dog some new tricks! I have already recommended a few clients to her classes, and they are getting a lot of benefits too. Great complement to chiropractic care.”

-Christian Guenette

Marla Waal

Marla was a professional dancer, trained in classical ballet among other styles. Based out of Montreal, then later Chicago, she travelled the globe performing and teaching. In 1998 she began to study various styles of yoga, from extremely gentle restorative, to more vigorous Ashtanga. Marla then studied Pilates with Diane Miller, Dynamic Anatomy with Eric Franklin, ELDOA Method created by Guy Voyer and more recently Buteyko Breathing created by Russian Doctor Konstantin Buteyko.

Marla is passionate about helping people feel more free and strong in their bodies by educating and directing them to learn through practice, and by sharing tools that promote independence.  She lives in beautiful Vancouver, BC, Canada with her two children. If you are in Vancouver and would like to attend one of her classes in person, she teaches at Qi Integrated Health.

Experience the Joy of Movement with a Live Online interactive class! Come and move with the infectiously vibrant international Nia Trainer, Winalee Zeeb! One of the amazing talents of a fabulous teacher like Winalee is her ability to make the Nia class easy for first-time beginners and exciting for people with decades of experience.

Winalee Zeeb

I began teaching in the fitness industry in 1981. I had a passion for exercise, and teaching aquatics courses, water exercise and aerobics filled that passion. These traditional fitness practices and my unconscious movement patterning ultimately led me to exhaustion, burnout, and physical pain. In 1984, I severely injured both my knees. I had numbed myself to my body’s voice of pain and I required surgery.

In July of 1991, I was on the edge of quitting teaching. I attended the IDEA Fitness Conference and I saw a sign that read, “Body, Mind, Spirit Workout.” I had not seen the word ‘spirit’ used in any other courses offered. Immediately, my curiosity drew me to take the workshop. It was a Nia workshop, and I clearly recall watching Debbie and Carlos enter the room. Every cell of my being recognized their radiance. They took the stage and did something unheard of at that time in the fitness industry – they invited us to take off our shoes. Those first barefoot seconds of conscious movement had my wounded knees saying, “Ahhhhhhh” as they experienced healing through movement. After tearfully dancing a profound healing awakening, I registered for their next White Belt Intensive. I sensed a deep knowing within myself that Nia had much to teach me. I eagerly attended the Blue, Brown, Black, and First Degree Black Belt trainings in succession.

In February of 1997, after years of practicing Nia and many hours of teaching, I was blessed with the honor of becoming a Nia Trainer. Words cannot express the infinite gifts my heart receives from the privilege of sharing the Nia Belts. I travel internationally teaching Nia, and I am passionately in love with what I am privileged to share. I sing professionally. I am a motivational keynote speaker, and a yoga teacher. On February 14, 2009, I opened Heartdance Studio – a magical space. The teachings of Nia have brought me my ability to balance all I am passionate about, and I am so very grateful.

I am honored to joyfully dance in the sea of life with all of you!

Move through the energy – prana – of inhaling and exhaling, smoothly flowing between postures. Yin Yoga then becomes the soothing tonic that can help us find balance and inner calm. In this practice poses are held longer, with deeply relaxing “stretching” poses that open and energize the “meridians,” or energy pathways of the body, restoring youthful joint mobility as you quietly activate your life force.

This class is open to all levels. Join us live online to nourish your spirit, rejuvenate your body, and enliven your mind!

Optional: You can come to class with a yoga mat and any cushions, towels or blankets that you may want to use as props during your practice.
