Dance trapeze has so many possibilities! Hang it high but within your reach and you have so much movement potential under the bar; here you can combine traditional circus moves with a contemporary style. Hang it hip height and your movement on and off the bar becomes completely different. And of course, we can’t forget the lines of the trapeze, a place for constant rediscovery of movement. Join us for this workshop and work with movement below, on, and above trapeze bars set at different heights.

Students with prior aerial experience will benefit more from the workshop.

Dance trapeze is a graceful and dynamic art form that takes movement from the ground into the air – in our case, about 2 feet off the ground. This low-key workshop is perfect for students with no aerial experience who want a gentle approach to learning about dance trapeze. We will review proper engagement, body alignment, and technique.

This unconventional workshop will use both a single point trapeze (which can spin) and double point trapeze (which can gently swing.) The very low height of the trapeze will allow students to sit on or step onto the bar to do all of their movements. Students will not have to lift their own body weight. Body weight, conditioning or age are not barriers to trying this beautiful movement form. Aerial Level 1 is NOT pre-requisite.

This workshop is an excellent introduction to dance trapeze. Unlike static trapeze, the dance trapeze is on a single point which creates a new space for dance above the bar. Students will learn proper alignment and engagement for dance trapeze, basic (and some advanced basic skills,) spinning and floor work underneath the bar. No previous aerial experience is necessary; however, previous aerial experience is always beneficial.

Class is limited to 6 students.
