Both Feldenkrais and Qigong agree that for our Chi/Energy to flow well, we need to drop straining and striving and apply awareness and breath. The similarities of Feldenkrais Method and Taoist understandings of the body allow for the two practices to enhance each other greatly – whether on our feet, on a mat or in a chair.

In this workshop you’ll find the right alignment of your spine for the energy centers in your body to naturally open. As you gain an easy alignment of your spine, feet and knees, your standing and sitting become simple in any situation. Your back feels better. You enhance any meditative practice, whether sitting, in Tai Chi or Qigong, etc. If you do not know anything about Tai Chi or Qigong this may be a good intro.

Dr Feldenkrais, a black belt judoka in France, applied abstract eastern concepts into a palpable western method of moving that enhanced his judo and helped him to overcome a serious knee injury.

May Day is Lei Day in Hawai’i! Join our school of hula, Na Hula Ola Aloha, and celebrate Lei Day through music and dance. Kumu Malia’s hula dancers will make your heart sing! Many of the dances have been choreographed by Kumu Malia herself, others have been passed down traditionally. Students range in age from preschoolers in keiki halau to the gracious ladies in our Aloha Friday Hula Classes. Dancers will perform in both the ancient kahiko and modern ‘auana hula styles.

Because of the many dancers, space is limited. Please pre-register to guarantee your place.

About Mālia:

Kumu Mālia Ko’i’ulaokawaolehua Helela strives to live a life of grace. She began her formal training in lomilomi as a teenager. She was licensed by the State of Hawaii as a massage therapist in 1998 and as an esthetician in 2002. Her hula practice and lomilomi practice, she says, are the same. Her hula halau, which meets at Still & Moving Center, is Na Hula Ola Aloha. Completing her ‘uniki under Kumu Hula Pulu’elo Park in 2002, Kumu Mālia now teaches hula and oli to a wide range of students, from infants and toddlers to kupuna. Mālia studied oli (traditional Hawaiian chant) under Kumu Hula John Keola Lake. She continues to look to the beauty and grace of the Hawaiian environment for grounding and inspiration.

THIS ONE IS DIFFERENT FROM LAST MONTH’S  SCOLIOSIS WORKSHOP.

This workshop helps your spine to untwist, to realign, and to self-heal. We use the sophisticated movement sequences of the Feldenkrais® Method and Eva’s Smart Moves to re-find spinal health, regain your range of motion and undo tension and pain.

In the course of this workshop, you will learn easy and gentle movements to take your health into your own hands. Instead of being adjusted or treated time and time again by others,  you can now learn what it is that causes you discomfort, tension or effort, and learn how to avoid it. Replace unconscious movement patterns with healthy ones that will make movement easier and smoother. If you have a twist in your spine (such as scoliosis) this workshop can be very helpful in teaching you how to lengthen your spine in the right direction. Bring benefit to all your neck, thoracic and lumbar vertebrae. You will feel more mobile yet stable. You may be able to avoid headaches as well or sciatic pain.

Awaken your heart and heal yourself by delving into the wisdom of “your inner biology”. Through breath, sound and movement, we invite our inner waters to penetrate and saturate all the different layers of ourselves: muscles, connective tissue, organs and cells.

Through spiral movement we unfold our spirit and coax the love that lies in the depth of our being to fill us and penetrate the field around us.

Learn to listen for your authentic body wisdom. The meeting of life – water and the spark of fire is the wonderful practice of creation and connection. We are all longing for this connection, and when we make it, our hearts open to deep joy. Then our love overflows into the great ocean of love.

Learning awareness of the body and the self translates into awareness of others and our surroundings. We gain the virtues of peace, self-love with compassion for others, and gentleness with strength.

Eva Alewa Geueke (Honolulu/ Cologne) practices the path of embodying the sacred through conscious movement and dance. Originally a professional trained dancer who performed and made her own evening length dance pieces she she ultimately felt that teaching will bring more healing and positive change into the world than performing.
After her Feldenkrais training and working intensively with Emily Conrad the founder of Continuum Movement and Susan Harper in the 80ies and 90ties she created Wave-Continuum. This beautiful healing movement practice opens the heart and connects the mover to the wisdom of life embedded in our fluid system of out cells and the universe. Undulating movement meditation, breath and sound bring this ancient awareness to the surface of our consciousness.

Uncover a deeper understanding of who you are as a dancer/mover through your creation of the mask. We are instinctively drawn to images of the face where the “movements of the Soul” are revealed. In today’s workshop, you, the mask-maker, will freeze a moment of this inner story, revealing the natural strengths and talents of the dancer within. This workshop will involve your senses and and your intellects of body, mind and spirit.

Dayl’s studies in Transpersonal Art Therapy lead her to discover that creative expression is innate in all humans and is an important exercise in the path to Soul healing. Join her in this workshop as she holds you through the exploration of movement and mask-making to deepen your dance experience.

“Thank you for the workshop. It gave me a different way of looking at life.” – Juliane

“Wonderful workshop. The silence was nice and setting intention with moving and static meditation a great way to begin.” – Leah

“Dayl held safe space for inner exploration – enough instruction with plenty of freedom. Thanks for the deep dive and the generous supply of art materials.” – Renée

“Thank you for this wonderful gift, my spirit enjoyed a real treat and so did all of me!” – Workshop participant

“It’s your spirit, your energy that you bring. It allows openness and healing. Thank you for sharing and relating it to dance.” – Workshop participant

Dayl Workman

Dayl’s diploma is in Transpersonal Art Therapy. This type of work goes beyond the mask we wear when we dance and brings back healing messages from the soul. The mask that we create is the creative expression of the soul, and having a visual representation of it can be used to inspire our own dance journey.

Anyone who attended our 2016 Diwali performance of the Ramayana will recognize Dayl as the detestably alluring demon princess Shurpanaka!  In 2017’s performance she poured herself into playing the jealous stepmother Kaikei. This woman knows how to enter a character, explore it, and seek its soul message.

As a teacher, Dayl creates a great space in which to learn, injecting humour and encouragement in the class environment whilst catering to all learning styles

Dayl’s passion for tribal belly dance extends to the love of community, bringing people together to move and dance the same “language”. She believes that creativity is a vehicle for good health, and what better way than to express it than through the art of dance! Dayl creates a great space in which to learn, injecting humour and encouragement in the class environment whilst catering for all learning styles.

Dayl fell in love with ATS® belly dance during her first class in January 1999 and has been performing and teaching ever since. Dayl has performed with several professional troupes in Oklahoma (Gypsy Fire), Texas (Tribal Evolution, Wild Sky Tribal) and Sydney (Urban Turban, Tribal Spirit) She has studied the dance form extensively in the USA and Australia, taking classes from such greats as Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman and Megha Gavin of Fat Chance Belly Dance, achieving her Teacher Training Certificate in 2016. Dayl incorporates zills, sword, veil, flags, fire fingers, poi/ fire poi, and fire lotuses in her performances, classes and workshops.

Warm up with Wave Continuum’s breath and sound to then follow your heartbeat and dance to a selection of music that leads you through different phases from slower to ecstatic and wild to lyrical, to arrive at a slowdown into deep relaxation. This can be just a great physical workout or a deep emotional journey where you can transform through the dance whatever is weighing you down. This is a safe space with other like-minded people who choose dance as one of their favorite ways to keep balanced and healthy, inside and out.

Eva Alewa Geueke leads guided Dance classes and events for 30 years now. She is a dancer at heart, as well as a professional Contemporary Dancer, who has always been interested in meaningful, authentic and transformative dance without being heady. Dance for her is a universal language that opens the heart, frees the spirit and brings peace, joy, health, creativity and positive transformation. Eva loves to learn choreographed dances but feels that needs to be balanced with the expression of one’s own personal dance language that comes out of oneself, a movement language that does not need to be judged, criticized or remembered. It lives beyond right and wrong, beautiful and ugly in the glorious moment of one’s authentic truth.
