When Portland-based aerial yoga instructor Wendi Lynch made the move to Honolulu and found Kaka‘ako’s Still and Moving Center, she knew that the location’s mind-body mission was a perfect complement for her classes. Wendi developed a comprehensive aerial yoga program for the Still and Moving Center, reflecting the national trend toward the style.

Aerial yoga is one of the fastest growing forms of yoga practices. The center’s program has grown to include a variety of aerial yoga classes, including daily and monthly workshops for beginners and experienced students alike.

Still & Moving Center’s director, Renée Tillotson (center), joins her staff of Nia teachers in the Barefoot Ballroom of the newly opened fitness center. “Nia is a body, mind, spirit practice incorporating dance, martial arts and the healing arts,” says Tillotson. The center has Nia classes seven days a week—as well as other forms of moving meditation such as yoga, Pilates and aikido—and classes for all ages, from tai chi for arthritis to hula for babies. In addition to three studios, the center has a boutique featuring clothing, books and locally made snacks that support a healthy lifestyle. 1024 Queen St., 397-7678, stillandmovingcenter.com.

wendiupsidedown-300x200Wendi Lynch is an E-RYT200, Unnata Aerial certified yoga instructor, and has been a devoted student of yoga since 2002. After falling in love with trapeze arts in 2008 she naturally gravitated to aerial yoga, training with Michelle Dortignac, founder of Unnata Aerial Yoga, in 2010. The de-compressive qualities of the practice led her to a fluidity and depth of practice she had not experienced before. Her teaching style is playful and athletic, encouraging and creative. Wendi’s teaching is strongly informed by her bodywork; she is a NCTMB and Hawaii state licensed massage therapist. Wendi is continually expanding her knowledge of the architecture of the body and how it relates to poses both on the floor and in the air.

As the first certified Aerial Yoga instructor in the islands, Wendi developed the Aerial Yoga program at the Still and Moving Center in Honolulu. She founded Aerial Yoga Hawaii, teaches weekly classes on Kauai and monthly workshops and bi-annual teacher trainings on Oahu.
