What really makes a person old ?  Is it wrinkles or is it the way you think and move ? Aging is a habit of tension and stressful responses that are learned and practiced unconsciously every day. The Feldenkrais Method works on the premise that it is the brain that organizes movement.  We will explore new strategies and unlearn some of those habits, learn to work smarter rather than harder with improved sensitvity and awareness. As a result you can then move with new vitality and ease and appear much younger than your chronological age.

June 14 –  Flexible Chest              

You will develop ease of movement throughout your entire chest as your ribs and spine are brought forward into your self image and integrated into larger patterns of functioning. Enjoy improved breathing, balance, coordination and well being.                                                                                                    Highly Recommended for all levels of ability.

June 21 – Pain-free Neck and Shoulders and Upper Back

Every day we do many tasks that put stress and strain on the muscles of our neck, shoulders and upper back, sitting at a computer, driving a car, even talking on the phone. Of course the difficulty is not the task itself, but rather using poor posture and self-organization. The result then can be chronic pain in the neck, shoulders and upper back. With these effective lessons, you provide your brain with new information and experiences to form new, pain free patterns. Enjoy the lessons, find comfort and tell pain and stiffness Goodbye!

June 28 – Effortless Posture                                               

We live in a field of gravity. Much of our efforts in life go towards keeping ourselves upright and keeping ourselves from  from falling over. We loose touch with our natural balance and fluidity that are our birthright.  Some people believe that a good posture is static and is holding a position, but what is actually needed  is that the work of the muscles is distributed equally and  you can simply move into any direction with ease.  You will find  harmony with gravity, move more  easily and breath a sigh of relief.

Brigette KawakamiBrigitte (Bebe) Kawakami was born in Austria, and grew up in a family where alpine hiking and downhill skiing were part of the physically active lifestyle. In 1976, Bebe came to the US, and eventually to Hawaii where she came to live and married a Hawaii born local.

Here in Hawaii, Brigitte was once hit by a car crossing the street and tossed in the air. She had back pains for over 25 years and tried Rolfing, chiropractic care, Pilates, yoga, and shiatsu massage…all helped, but only for a few days and the pain always came back.

Bebe discovered the Feldenkrais method with Eve Strauss in Honolulu and experienced relief. This led to further study and training with Jerry Karzen in Maui, and after practicing Feldenkrais for 8 months she was pain free. Her studies continued at the main Feldenkrais Institute in Vienna, Austria with Jeremy Krauss, Luci and Carl Ginsberg, and Miriam Pfeiffer, and she is now more agile than she was even as a child.

Bebe is a now a Guild Certified Feldenkrais ® teacher and is dedicated and passionate about the Feldenkrais method, and being a former kindergarten teacher, enjoys teaching ATM (Awareness Through Movement) lessons and One on One FI (Functional Integration) lessons.
