Embodying the energies of the elements Earth, Air, Fire and Water in movement profoundly informs us about our relationships to their inherent qualities. Are we grounded? Where is our passion? Can we flow with changes? What is our connection to playfulness? Using the open field of the Sweat Your Prayers dance, we will focus on one element a week with a few guided structures to start each session.

With a focus on connective tissue, we will explore the largest tissue of your body. Our connective tissues (myofascia) cover every organ, muscle, tendon, joint – every internal body part. The stresses in our lives tend to tighten, torque and bunch our connective tissue – but it doesn’t have to stay that way! Playing in each of the five stages of development, Nia’s five stages of healing, will help to to smooth and loosen your connective tissue. As you allow yourself to slow down, you can focus on the ” in-between” sensation of movements flowing from one part of the body to another. The goal is for you to find a silky sensation in your movement, a quality of grace and ease that enhances the health of your myofascia. The workshop will conclude with an abbreviated Nia class to move with the music, enjoying your new awareness of your connective tissue.
