Folks are back in school, but still summer here in Honolulu! Did you realize that summer in Chinese medicine is the time of the heart?

This Friday night’s dance theme is to warm the HEART! We celebrate love, beauty, joy, happiness and also the compassionate, warm and patient heart. Think of KwanYin. Take heart and express these qualities through dance and music. Open and heal your heart or help to heal the heart of the world. Create joy by dancing freely.

This can be just a great physical workout or a deep emotional journey where you can transform whatever is weighing you down through the dance. The space is safe with other like-minded people who choose dance as one of their favorite ways to keep balanced and healthy in and out.

No prior experience needed. Just wear comfortable clothes that make your heart happy!

The wonderful month of May, just before summer heat hits, is connected to flowers and in some cultures to the worship of female deities or Mother Mary in Germany. Eva chooses to dedicate this month dance to the sacred feminine (in both genders), to beauty, abundance, growth, grace and love.

This dance is a freeing experience for your soul and heart. Whatever you bring to it can find expression through your body and movement and can be at the end transformed into beauty.

This dance is like a shamanic experience, very connected to the earth yet spiritual or mystical. It’s a wonderful opportunity to simply express your joy,  beauty and grace, and to give expression to your feminine, creative side.

Men and women equally welcome. No previous experience required. Please wear comfortable, flowing clothes.

Spring is such a potent time for growth…What are you wanting to plant this season?

This is a dance dedicated to the creative power of Spring. It can all start with planting your feet on the earth to the rhythm of music that leads you from a warm up, through a wave, to ecstatic to stillness.

This evening can be simply a creative workout or a deep exploration of your intentions or a kickstart to your creative flow. Instead of talking about it, here you may dance it: dance yourself through all the obstacles and resistances until you can confidently and freely dance your desire, intention, project or just yourself.

No previous experience required. Wear something green or bright and – more importantly – comfortable, flowing clothes.

Warm up with Wave Continuum’s breath and sound to then follow your heartbeat and dance to a selection of music that leads you through different phases from slower to ecstatic and wild to lyrical, to arrive at a slowdown into deep relaxation. This can be just a great physical workout or a deep emotional journey where you can transform through the dance whatever is weighing you down. This is a safe space with other like-minded people who choose dance as one of their favorite ways to keep balanced and healthy in and out.

Bring a dish for a potluck afterwards outside.

This event will gently guide participants to explore intuitive dance movement through physical contact with one another. This is a free flow dance form in which the point of contact with the other dancer/s provides the starting point for a movement exploration. Practice can include rolling, being upside down, following a physical point of contact and supporting and giving weight to a partner.

We spend 45 minutes in dancing free flow before we start with the Contact Improvisational instructions and jam. Contact Improvisation is profound yet lighthearted, sometimes acrobatic yet safe, simple yet bold, sincere yet playful. Contact Improv will add newness, inspiration and a somewhat meditative, loving state to your dancing self. Contact Improv is an evolving system of movement initiated in 1972 by American choreographers Steve Paxton and Nancy Stark Smith. The improvised dance form is based on the communication between two moving bodies that are in physical contact and their combined relationship to the physical laws that govern their motion-gravity, momentum, inertia.

*Wear comfortable clothing: half-length or long sleeves and pants preferred.

The 5Rhythms moving meditation/dance practice, created by Gabrielle Roth, is a beautiful path of release, healing, and ultimately, true self-acceptance. By moving through the rhythms, Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness, we explore the nature of who we are and how our energy moves in this life. Wonderful music from all genres invites the exploration of each rhythm as well as some gentle guidance.
Open to all abilities and levels of experience. Seasoned dancers, as well as beginners, will benefit from embodied awareness fostered by the 5Rhythms concepts set in motion.
Heeraa Sazevich, a certified 5Rhythms® teacher, has passionately explored the field of embodied consciousness for over 20 years. Blessed with edge-walking teachers Osho and Gabrielle Roth, the journey to freedom through moving meditation is her clear path to walk and share. Based in communities she fostered over 12 years in Honolulu, Hawaii, and Sun Valley, Idaho, she also travels to facilitate 5Rhythms® workshops.

The 5Rhythms® is a moving meditation dance practice which takes the participant through five rhythms: flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical and stillness. There are no dance steps, but the music and the teacher, act as a guide to movement. All level of abilities welcome.

Created by Gabrielle Roth and practiced by tens of thousands worldwide, 5Rhythms is rooted in the principle that if you put the psyche in motion it will heal itself. Movement is both the medicine and the metaphor, reaching across all languages, cultures and age groups, to transform suffering into art, art into awareness, and awareness into action. Wherever the 5Rhythms are practiced, a community is born to dance, to sweat, to change, to support, and to provide a safe space for each of us to awaken the juicy, fascinating, edge-walking, vibrant part of ourselves that yearns to be free. Creativity. Connection. Community.

“Waves move in patterns. Patterns move in rhythms. A human being is just that, energy, waves, patterns, rhythms. Nothing more. Nothing less. A dance. ” (Gabrielle Roth)

naomi2Naomi Lishman

Originally from the UK, my first taste of conscious dancing was in Japan where I lived and worked as a yoga and English teacher for ten years. Having found the 5Rhythms in 2009 and completed the teacher training in 2014, I see the practice as a significant healing process which deepens our understanding of our relationships to self, partner and group. The dance floor is a microcosm and reflection of much larger aspects of our lives. This pathway has the potential and potency to open doors and leads to a rich community of people and support. Having a group of individuals share such a transformative space serves as a reminder of how we need people in our lives. The 5Rhythms is a life changing practice which grounds and connects to higher levels of conciousness, enabling us to move on and through difficulties and create the lives we most desire.
