Expanding Touch Techniques and Enhancing Sensitivity Principal Certification. Modules 1-3 are pre-requisites for this course. “Thai massage is as good to give as it is to receive” – we have already explored this concept in our practice by using efficient and safe biomechanics. This course will extend this idea to the use of our different “tools” when massaging.

Course content includes:

– Exploring greater use of our feet, knees and forearms in the application of massage pressure and muscle manipulation techniques to improve practitioner and client experience,

– Developing our touch sensitivity in these larger areas of our body so that we can use them for the full spectrum of pressure from superficial to deep touch,

– Comparing the use of different tools for different postures. This will help us see if a new touch technique will replace or add onto a previously used technique taking us deeper into the pose,

– The addition of another hour of massage postures to add into our existing repertoire,

– Discussions on how these new touch techniques impact our ability to customize our treatments.

In this module, we will once again revisit and consolidate knowledge gained from previous courses and build from there. After this course you will have a complete 3-hour massage sequence that will allow you to provide a total body experience for your clients. Once the requirements for this training are complete, you will also be eligible to apply for Principal Certification.

This training focuses on:

– Exploring the idea and practice of customization. Both in terms of the entire massage sequence as well as individual postures. This will encourage greater expression of your own massage “flavour” and it will allow creativity and intuition to play a larger role in your treatments,

– Opening the doors into Sen line work by learning one of the major pathways in our bodies and being introduced to marma points,

– Adding an abdomen massage into the sequence and discussing its applications and appropriate use,

– Bridging the gap between the science of anatomy and the wisdom of Thai massage as energy work.

These classes place a lot of emphasis on getting in and practicing the techniques directly so that you immediately start getting hands-on experience. Module 1  AUG 7 – 9 sets a solid foundation in the practice of high quality touch. We do this by combining some anatomy with positive intention and our physical practice. When exchanging massages in class you are receiving in-depth feedback from your classmates and the teacher as well as gaining a new understanding of the postures when you receive the massage. This first course will provide you with a sound 45-minute flow that focuses on the most common areas of tension, namely the shoulders, neck and back.

In Module 2  AUG 10 – 12 we revisit and enhance our understanding of content from the first module. We then delve deeper into the concepts of quality touch and extend our massage sequence to explore more of the body. By adding in more postures to include the arms, legs, hands and feet, we will end up with a 2-hr massage sequence. In the 3rd Module, we consolidate and extend our practice from the first 2 courses to produce a well-rounded and more complete massage flow. After this course you will be able to give a fluid 2.5-hr massage, providing a total mind-body experience. We also explore some useful ways to customize the massage to make sure you’re comfortable with both longer and shorter length treatments and to best suit the needs of your client.

After Module 3 and some home practice you will be eligible for Principal Certification.

Investment: – $495 per module (early bird by July 15) – $535 regular – Module 1-3 package: $1405 regular, $1285 early bird by July 15. Prices do not include any applicable taxes. Course fees DO include all training manuals.

– Enhancing our concept and practice of quality touch. This becomes easier as postures become more familiar and comfortable.

– Increasing our anatomy knowledge to include the major structures of the arms, legs, hands and feet.

– Creating smooth transitions between postures to enhance client experience.

Thai yoga massage therapy is an extraordinarily dynamic practice that weaves its way into your life, evolving into a way of living. Its roots in ancient Ayurveda encourage self-reflection and greater self-awareness of your individual constitution. This can have a profound effect on the decisions and patterns you see throughout your life. By moving your body to facilitate wellness in others, you affect yourself in countless positive ways – creating an environment that is not solely about giving, but receiving as well. Thai massage is unique in the world of bodywork because it focuses on working towards ease and efficiency of body mechanics when giving a treatment. This ultimately enhances the experience of both the receiver and the practitioner.

drewthai5Thai yoga massage is a mind-body-spirit practice that has roots in the ancient understanding of Ayurveda. Thai massage incorporates many different soft tissue manipulation techniques (massage, fascial release, chopping, and many more) with assisted stretches and meditation in order to achieve a deep state of relaxation. This modality of touch emphasizes that each physical body is different and has different needs, meaning that no two massages are ever exactly the same. Treatments are generally performed on the floor on padded mats, with receivers fully clothed and without the use of oils. Intuition is a guiding force in our massage sessions, as is a thorough understanding of the human body. Through meditation we are able to tune into our intuition and allow the massage to come from a place of Metta (compassion).
