Winalee Zeeb

I began teaching in the fitness industry in 1981. I had a passion for exercise, and teaching aquatics courses, water exercise and aerobics filled that passion. These traditional fitness practices and my unconscious movement patterning ultimately led me to exhaustion, burnout, and physical pain. In 1984, I severely injured both my knees. I had numbed myself to my body’s voice of pain and I required surgery.

In July of 1991, I was on the edge of quitting teaching. I attended the IDEA Fitness Conference and I saw a sign that read, “Body, Mind, Spirit Workout.” I had not seen the word ‘spirit’ used in any other courses offered. Immediately, my curiosity drew me to take the workshop. It was a Nia workshop, and I clearly recall watching Debbie and Carlos enter the room. Every cell of my being recognized their radiance. They took the stage and did something unheard of at that time in the fitness industry – they invited us to take off our shoes. Those first barefoot seconds of conscious movement had my wounded knees saying, “Ahhhhhhh” as they experienced healing through movement. After tearfully dancing a profound healing awakening, I registered for their next White Belt Intensive. I sensed a deep knowing within myself that Nia had much to teach me. I eagerly attended the Blue, Brown, Black, and First Degree Black Belt trainings in succession.

In February of 1997, after years of practicing Nia and many hours of teaching, I was blessed with the honor of becoming a Nia Trainer. Words cannot express the infinite gifts my heart receives from the privilege of sharing the Nia Belts. I travel internationally teaching Nia, and I am passionately in love with what I am privileged to share. I sing professionally. I am a motivational keynote speaker, and a yoga teacher. On February 14, 2009, I opened Heartdance Studio – a magical space. The teachings of Nia have brought me my ability to balance all I am passionate about, and I am so very grateful.

I am honored to joyfully dance in the sea of life with all of you!

Sundays, 9:15 – 10:25 am

13 week series: April 30 – Aug 6, no session on Mother’s Day, May 14

The series is conducted in person at Still & Moving Center as well as online via GoToMeeting, on which all participants can be seen and heard, live time.

Enhance your ability to learn and teach Nia routines!

Prerequisite: Nia White Belt or higher

The focus of the routine Joy, by Ann Christiansen, is to sense life force energy, experience Joy! The intent is to sustain and increase the sensation of Joy, tweaking as needed, to create sustainability in the body.

Renée teaches you tools to unpack each song of a Nia routine, musically and choreographically. She shares insights from her 15 years of Nia practice and teaching, including life lessons from both of Nia’s founders, Debbie Rosas and Carlos Rosas.

And we’ll delve into the 5 principles of the Body’s Way, a signature feature of the Nia practice. Using the Body’s Way, Renée carefully models and explains body positioning, song by song, to ensure ease and safety of movement.

Here we go beyond studying movement sequences and explore how Nia practices are meaningful to our daily lives. We’ll learn to recognize in ourselves the 4 realms of the Nia practice: Body, Mind, Emotions & Spirit: the uniqueness that is you!

You will find in this mentorship program important instructional tips and a huge virtual hug of support and encouragement. Our participants can range from Japan to Canada, from Georgia to Wyoming, and of course Hawaii.

The bonds of fellowship and interconnectedness that you will share with your fellow mentees and mentors are almost palpable. Participants in former mentorships series have evolved into teaching single songs as guest instructors; teaching partial or whole classes as subs; to teaching classes of their own.

We enjoy time for check-in and sharing our individual Nia practices, time for experimenting with our Nia toolbox of skills, time for decoding the music, and time for moving with the music.

$130 for the 13 week Series. Normal drop-in rates of $17 paying online or $20 paying in person will apply for those who can only attend the parts of the series.

“The Nia Mentorship Series that I’ve attended online with Still & Moving Center has been such a great opportunity for me to stay “connected” to my Nia practice and Nia community in a way I could not have imagined when I signed up. The experience, love and appreciation of Nia that Renée, Nancy and others that have shared in the mentoring of this class and what they bring to the table and the dance floor is incredible!

Learning a new routine with the class, reviewing and diving deeper into the Nia principles and practices has been such a great learning opportunity for me.Through this Mentorship Series experience I continue to learn and grow in my confidence and ability to share Nia as a newer teacher as well as my own personal Nia practice.

I have also improved immensely the ability to put into practice my learnings as I draw from the “well” of  Nia and “dance through life” in my own mind, body spirit experiences of each day.” – Mikelle Ivers, Nia White, Green & Blue Belt from Wyoming.
