Runjini Murthy began her formal study of Bharata Natyam at the age of seven. For 12 years, she studied with her guru Smt. Jothi Raghavan, renowned teacher and founder of the Nrityanjali School in Boston, MA. Runjini had her arangetram (i.e. solo dance recital) at the age of 14, and has performed in several professional Nrityanjali productions including Siva Leela, Alankaram (a collaboration with the Battery Dance Company of New York), and Arpana. Over the years, she has had the good fortune of working with many esteemed visiting choreographers, dancers, and musicians from India. While classically trained in Bharata Natyam, Runjini also loves Bollywood and hip-hop, and appreciates dance from all over the world.
