An aerial yoga program credentialed through the Yoga Alliance. AIReal Yoga™ uses a looped fabric, that swivels freely on a single point taking you to a higher level of core stability. It allows you to deepen your stretch, correct your alignment, refine postures and safely perform inversions.

Feeling ready to occupy vertical space doing yoga? This class is for every body to benefit from the poses of yoga. The aerial hammock is here to be your friend, your balance, your support in this yoga class. Throughout this class, you find traditional yoga poses as well as some aerial variations. The silky, sling-like hammock, which hangs and swivels from the ceiling, acts as another yoga prop. It assists you with both balance and stability, wrapping around you to hold your full body’s weight so that you feel comfortable and completely supported.

Inversions anyone? The hammock also serves as your very own spotter, allowing you to experience and feel benefits from yoga poses you did not think possible.

This aerial yoga class is extremely easy on the joints and will help you to feel proper core engagement, build full body strength, deepen any stretch to increase flexibility. You will correct misalignments within the body, strengthen your yoga mat practice, and bring about feelings of relaxation and bliss as you crawl into your hammock cocoon for savasana at the end of the practice. You do not need to be an acrobat to defy gravity. Claim your piece of ‘vertical real estate’ in aerial yoga class with any of our AIReal Yoga™ certified instructors.

Kindly let your instructor know of any injuries. Contra-indications for aerial classes: glaucoma, heart-conditions, fused spine, pregnancy beyond doctor recommendation. Clothing requirements: tight-fitting; no zippers or metal; under-arms covered. Jewelry off. T-shirt on!

Eriko Jones

Eriko serves as Still & Moving Center’s official Japanese/English translator of our website and as our contact person for all Japanese guests. She has traveled with and translated for our kumu hula (hula master) Malia Helela for since 2010. We prize Eriko’s warm graciousness as well as her excellent language skills.

Born in Tokyo and raised in Yokohama, Eriko moved to the USA in 1993 to attend college in San Diego, graduated from UCSD with B.S. Biology, and made her dream come true as a dolphin trainer! She also spent two years at a school in Los Angeles training to be an interpreter. With her American husband, their bilingual little boy, and many American and Japanese friends, she’s constantly working in both languages!

Eriko’s English/Japanese translation work, both written and spoken, has taken place in many settings: classes, workshops, in courts and law offices, hospitals, trade shows and business meetings. She does event planning and coordination, as well as marketing – mediating between the Japanese and English-speaking cultures.

Eriko is no ordinary translator. She goes into the ocean at sunrise for Hawaiian hiuwai ceremonies and hikes up mountains to interpret for hula dancers.  She has spontaneously modeled clothing for our boutique and played a role of magician/deer in a performance. She even emceed for a hula performance at Ala Moana Center Stage one time!
As one of those rare individuals who has trained dolphins, Eriko evidently speaks a third language: Dolphin!

Experience the thrill of applying your skill in the air to different aerial disciplines. In this class, you will practice your skills on various apparatus such as Straight Silks, Hammock, Lyra, Trapeze, as well as in floor exercises and stretching. Learn techniques and strength-building exercises that are relevant to all aerial mediums. As you transfer your skills from one apparatus to another, you discover similarities and differences, as well as where you feel most at home. Enjoy a fabulous, unique workout with restful, rejuvenating closure.

Contra-indications for aerial classes: glaucoma, heart-conditions, fused spine, pregnancy beyond doctor recommendation. Clothing requirements: tight-fitting; no zippers or metal; under-arms covered. Jewelry off. T-shirt on!

I’m so proud of one of my dear and longest-known friends on island, Shar! And I’m so glad she has rejoined us at Still & Moving, now to teach aerial classes. She and I began teaching Nia at about the same time, about 2003-4 and worked our way through Black Belt training over the years. Whew!

Shar has since been performing, getting trained and teaching aerial with Samadhi for more than 7 years. She also took teacher trainings at Still & Moving Center: her Aerial Yoga training from Leva Aerial Yoga and Aerial Dance teacher training from NECCA (New England Center for the Circus Arts). Sharlene received her RYT-200 yoga training through Yoga Alliance, and she is also a certified aqua instructor.

Shar is irrepressible and unstoppable. When Shar was a little girl, her grandmother told her she danced “like a stick”, took her out of hula class and bought her a horse instead. I’m guessing the horse was a better teacher than the hula instructor. Shar grew up to become a beautiful, skilled dancer – both on the floor and in the air! And she’s never lost her childlike playfulness that always adds a spark of fun to every class she teaches.

A friend to all, Shar has something good to say to everyone. She believes that the array of mind-body movement formats that she practices bring balance, joy and creativity to her life – not to mention channeling her endless energy!

Look for Shar on our aerial class schedule this month!
