What does it feel like to move in and suspend in the air? This is your class, designed for those who are new to the aerial experience. Here is your opportunity to learn fundamental aerial skills in a safe and supportive environment. You will practice in the straight silks as well as on the floor, developing the body skills so important to being successful, having fun and enriching your mind/body connection. We will focus on the basic skills, which include but are not limited to: learning how to handle the silks, body alignment, safe entry and dismount, basic climbs and foot locks, and inversions. With practice, your entire body, not just upper body and core, will develop strength, flexibility, alignment and stamina.

Please let your instructor know of any injuries. Contra-indications for aerial classes: glaucoma, heart-conditions, fused spine, pregnancy beyond doctor recommendation. Clothing requirements: tight-fitting; no zippers or metal; under-arms covered. Jewelry off. T-shirts on!

Please pre-register for class at least half an hour in advance. Space is limited and setup time for the silks is necessary.

Sharlene Bliss

Sharlene’s aerial practice brings balance, joy and creativity to her life, and she thrives on the focus, systemic movement and neuro-muscular pathways that develop in the body.

She started her aerial education in 2010 at Samadhi Hawaii, where she is privileged to continue her practice as a student under the guidance of Samadhi’s experienced dance and aerial arts professionals. She is an aerial teacher at Samadhi Hawaii, focusing on dance trapeze. She is also member of Samadhi’s Apprentice Company. Her training also includes the introduction to aerial teaching through NECCA (New England Center for the Circus Arts), and she has participated in numerous aerial workshops, including a trapeze workshop with Susan Murphy of Marsh Studio.

Sharlene complements her aerial practice with Nia and other mind-body movement formats. She is a certified Nia Black Belt teacher, and has been teaching Nia since 2004. ki maryKi Mary Wagar, 200 RYT, always felt a fascination with the body and how it functions. She loves the playfulness she discovered in acrobatics and enjoyed the discipline of pilates, and longed to deepen her exploration of her body.
