Fara Tolno is a master musician and dancer who trained with the legendary director Kemoko Sano of Les Merveilles de Guinea and Les Ballets Africans. Based in the US for the last 15 years, he has influenced the professional recognition of African Dance, earned his MFA from the University of Colorado and shares his powerful presence as a teacher and performer both nationally and internationally.
As an artist and educator, Fara Tolno brings an innovative perspective to his work, one steeped in the knowledge of Guinean music and dance. He spent nine years with Les Merveilles de Guinea under the tutelage of West Africa’s most influential director and choreographer, Kemoko Sano. Living in the United States for the past 15 years, Fara has shared his powerful presence as a performer and teacher in communities across the country. He is the first among his peers to earn an MFA in Dance, aiming to increase the professional recognition of African Dance in the United States. In addition to developing an extensive repertoire for his company Kissidugu Drum and Dance Theatre, he has most recently been invited to choreograph for Odigbo Adama in New Mexico, and Koumankele African Dance and Drum Ensemble in Texas. His artistic works explores the complexities, influences, and impact of West African music and dance in the United States, integrating traditional and modern aesthetics. http://kissidugu.org/
