This sampler workshop will introduce you to a movement practice that prioritizes healing and empowerment for survivors of trauma. Jody will offer the full 20-hour Trauma Sensitive Yoga training July 31, Aug 1-2, 2020.

Experiencing physical and psychological trauma often causes people to respond to events from their past and disconnect from their bodies. This disconnect in turn causes a further sense of loss, a loss of selfhood. Inviting a person to move their body in a way that feels safe and non-invasive can allow them to experience embodiment once again, to reconnect with themselves.

The Trauma Center in Brookline, Massachusetts developed this particular method, and called it Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY). TCTSY is an empirically validated, clinical intervention for complex trauma or chronic, treatment-resistant PTSD. The TCTSY method is based on central components of hatha yoga and offers participants a path back to being present.

The practice modifies elements of standard hatha yoga to maximize experiences of empowerment and to cultivate a more positive relationship to one’s body. Unlike many yoga classes, TCTSY uses no physical hands-on adjustments to influence a participant’s physical form. Rather, TCTSY presents opportunities for participants to be in charge of themselves based on a felt sense of their own body. Facilitators invite participants to notice sensation and make authentic choices in their bodies as a way to cultivate agency.

Attend this sampler to experience the practice and learn more about current methods that foster recovery from trauma and boost resilience.
