The Feldenkrais Method for Health Professionals
May 1, 2016 @ 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm
April 30 and May 1, 2016
This 2 day introductory workshop is for anyone interested in integrating the Feldenkrais Method into their medical/healing practice:
OT’s, LMT’s, PT’s, MD’s, RN’s, DO’s, psychologists, people working with children or the aged, and anyone interested in exploring developmental movement the Feldenkrais way.
Dr. Feldenkrais was intimately acquainted with the workings of our nervous system and anatomical structure. He developed a system of moving the body in gentle, non-threatening ways that re-educate the nervous system so that our intent and our action will be concurrent. Muscle and brain functions can be restored. In some cases, the Feldenkrais Method leads the student/client/patient through performing movement on their own; in other cases the Feldenkrais practitioner works hands-on. Through gentle touch and careful, slow movements, the nervous system is informed, mostly non-verbally, on how to coordinate movement more functionally. The results include healthier movement habits and possibilities, reduction of pain and inflammation, and increased awareness of body and self – among many other benefits.
Moshe Feldenkrais studied how children learn and move. Obviously people make the biggest learning steps in the beginning of their lives. It is in the time when children are allowed to learn organically before they go to school. After examining organic learning Dr. Feldenkrais incorporated the principles of organic learning into his method. This workshop will shed light on organic learning and movement patterns associated with it. This is an experiential workshop! Dress comfortably for movement. Bring 2 towels. Mats available! This is an Intro into a 12-month Feldenkrais Intensive for Professionals.
