Practicing the Nia 5 Stages allows your body to naturally reclaim its natural mobility, flexibility, strength, agility, and stability. Like yoga, much of the 5 Stages practice is done on the floor, or smoothly and easily going down to and coming up from the floor. Each 5 stages class has a different focus, allowing you to really learn the beauty and dynamic ability of your body’s anatomical structure. This 5 Stages of Healing series is scheduled to allow and encourage students to move directly into the 10:30 am Nia class that directly follows.

September 28 – Body Awareness: Tracking Sensations of Pleasure and Pain – This class is an opportunity for you to explore The Body’s Way, which is a method of looking at the design of the body and allowing its structure to dictate how the body is used – that means how you do what you do.

October 5 – Connective Tissue: the body’s largest organ, the stuff that connects together every single part of our bodies. This session will help you to slow down and sense the relationship between connected body parts. You will learn to more seamlessly connect your movements to one another. Connect to the sensation of the “in-between” for smoother transitions.

October 12 – Head and Neck: Housing the command center of your central nervous system, your head and neck are vital to graceful, coordinated movement. Learning to sense where one ends and the other begins, you’ll be see and sense the beautiful unit and systems that allow the head and neck to function.

October 19 – Shoulder Blades: In this lesson you’ll instill healthy movements for your shoulder blades, extending from the center of your back outwards. Use creative arm and hand expressions, awareness, and changing the direction of your palms to keep your shoulder blades engaged and healthy, your chest open and your back strong.

October 26 – Sacrum & Coccyx: These frequently ignored bones at the base of your spine are critical for a healthy back and for supple movement and balance. Explore how the sacrum and coccyx are designed to move and support different areas of your body.
