Love, Or the Weight of Light: An Art & Sound Healing Event
February 10 @ 5:15 pm - 6:45 pm
Canelle Demange, Lucie Lynch with Still & Moving Center Dance Teachers
Come and experience the inner spaces of your heart. Submerge yourself in a sound bath with Lucy. Above you, Canelle’s hand-painted tapestries float on a breath of air. Delicately hung throughout the Barefoot Ballroom, these lovely organza art pieces create an ethereal labyrinth. Your heart may soar as you lie on a mat beneath the wafting silk banners, soaking in the vibration of the crystal bowls. The event commences with a meditative, poetic dance performance by Canelle Demange and Still & Moving Center’s dance artists, including Eva Geueke, Dayl Workman and Renée Tillotson. A taste of chocolate completes your delicious experience!
“My creations arise from a state of meditation. My process is a surrendering to the elements: the silks, the paints, the water, and the space between the movement of the brushes. May these brushstrokes invite you closer to your own heart.” – Canelle Demange
The celebration of life through beauty, art, and healing threads its way as a theme through Canelle’s entire life. Intensely involved in modern dance at the Bill Evans School, she started to explore the world of self – expression as a dancer, choreographer, and painter. “My love for painting emerged out of my love for dance. Yes! To reveal the invisible and the ephemeral through colors and dynamics of movement!” She has performed and exhibited her one-of-a-kind hand-painted designs on fabric in Paris and Seattle over the last 30 years.
“The mind is like the wind and the body like the sand: if you want to know how the wind is blowing, you can look at the sand” – Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen
Canelle encountered Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen and her work, which met her needs to experience and embrace the richness and mysteries of the world of embodiment of oneself. Canelle became a certified practitioner of Body-Mind Centering®, and specialized in Neurodevelopmental movement. Her passion for healing the brain from trauma thrived as she worked with children and adults on the autism spectrum.
Born and raised in the medieval city of Angers on the Loire River Valley in France, Canelle came to the United States of America as a French assistant teacher at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. She wrote her wrote her thesis on Northwest American Indian Art, fascinated by their experience of the sacred being part of the everyday life, and by their spirituality grounded in honoring mother. She now lives between Paris and Honolulu and started a collection of photos of her textile art:
