Back pain either chronic or acute is a common and often disabling condition for huge portions of the American population. This workshop will address many of the environmental as well as skeletal and muscular conditions that contribute to this frequent disorder. During this 2 day workshop, you will learn some simple movements and living practices that can help relieve pain and contribute to the health of your back.
Radically shift range of motion without stretching. Stop unconscious habits that contribute to pain and discomfort. Get to the source of what impedes your poses and posture.
Jerry Karzen studied with Moshe Feldenkrais at the Feldenkrais® Institute in Tel-Aviv from 1976-1983. During those years he was Dr. Feldenkrais’ personal traveling companion, secretary, and close friend. Dr. Feldenkrais chose him to be a Trainer in 1982 along with Mia Segal, Yochanon Rywerant, Ruthy Alon, Chava Shelhav, Miriam Pfeffer, Anat Baniel, and the late Bruria Milo and Gaby Yaron.
Since 1980 Jerry has been the organizer or Educational Director for 25 Feldenkrais Training Programs in 9 countries, and has been a Visiting Trainer for numerous other programs. He is currently the Educational Director for Feldenkrais trainings in New Zealand, Germany, and Brasil. Jerry assisted in the editing of Dr. Feldenkrais’ last two books (The Elusive Obvious and The Potent Self) and directed, or himself filmed, 95% of all existing videos of Dr. Feldenkrais’ private Functional Integration® lessons. At his request, Jerry organized and administered Dr. Feldenkrais’ last teacher training program and was the first Executive Director of the Feldenkrais Foundation. He has also served as President of the Feldenkrais Guild of North America®.
Jerry is highly regarded for his ability to interpret and explain Dr. Feldenkrais’ Functional Integration lessons. He is also known for his clear and concise teaching, incorporating an open-ended, exploratory, and non-directive style. www.feldenkraishawaii.com
“After 8 years of suffering from a lower back injury, I no longer believed that being free from back pain was a possibility. I had tried physical therapy, chiropractic, massage, acupuncture, osteopathy, Pilates, etc. with no success. Then I tried Feldenkrais and after a few sessions, I began to realize that my back pain could be a thing of the past. My back usually feels very good nowadays, and when it flares up every once in a while, Feldenkrais always relieves it.” Renee Tillotson, Director of Still & Moving Center
