Within the context of mindful movement, learn defensive techniques from the Shaolin tradition, focusing attention on the upper extremities.

AUGUST 2 session: Kung Fu: Arms & Hands

• Warm-up, emphasizing mobility

• I chin ching (aka Yijin Jing) – “muscle tendon changing” exercises

• Strength conditioning with the long staff

• Blocks, strikes & punches in place

• Block, strike, punch, kick & sweep Drills, moving

• Practice with punching mitts

• Applications – using the techniques with another person in real situations, including chin na (joint locks)

• Cool-down & stretching

AUGUST 9 session: Kung Fu: Legs & Feet

Learn to use your lower extremities, especially, for self-protection and increasing mindfulness.

Workshop activities will consist of :

• Warm-up, emphasizing mobility

• Swinging legs for dynamic stretching and static leg lifts for strengthening

• Kicks & sweeps and in place • Kick & sweep drills, moving

• Practice with punching mitts & punching bag

• Applications – using the techniques the techniques with another person in real situations, including kicking, sweeping, grabbing, take-down

• Cool-down, stretching & foam rolling

 

AUGUST 16 session: Kung Fu: Arms, Hands, Legs & Feet

Take the opportunity to integrate the practices from the first two workshops, balancing the use of upper and lower extremities.

The mindful vigor of Shaolin Kung Fu will come through these activities:

• Warm-up emphasizing mobility

• I chin ching (aka Yijin Jing) – “muscle tendon changing” exercises from the Shaolin tradition

• Swinging legs for dynamic stretching and static leg lifts for strengthening

• Strength conditioning with the long staff

• Moving drills for blocks, strikes & punches, kicks & sweeps • Practice with punching mitts & punching bag

• Applications – using the techniques the techniques with another person in real situations

• Including chin na (joint locks), kicks, sweeps, grabs, and take-downs

• Cool-down, stretching & foam rolling

Bruno Ballestrero

 

Bruno Ballestrero is the founder and director of San Bao Center, a branch of Kai Men Kung Fu Association.

He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and began his training with the Professor Sergio Deliens, disciple of the Master Zhang Zhi Guo in 1999. In 2003 he became a disciple of the director of the Kai Men Kung Fu Association, Professor Horacio Di Renzo, who is in turn a disciple of the Grandmaster Chan Kowk Wai. He started teaching Kung Fu and Tai Chi in Kai Men Kung Fu Association in 2004 and formed his own institute, Centro San Bao, in 2008. He has also taught in the National University of Fine Arts of Argentina (IUNA) and in Aequalis Elementary School in Buenos Aires.

He continues to train with Professor Horacio Di Renzo in the styles of Northern Shaolin and Tai Chi Chuan, and has begun to develop other styles such as Praying Mantis, Choy Li Fut, Lohan, etc. He has taken seminars with the Masters Zhang Zhi Guo, Yang Jwing Ming, Kwong Wing Lam and the Grandmaster Chan Kowk Wai. In addition to studying acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine from Chao Piao-Sheng, disciple of Wang Shu Jin, Bruno has also studied the Kettlebells physical conditioning technique and the physical therapy technique known as “Global Postural Reeducation.” In 2004, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 he traveled to Sao Paulo, Brazil, to train directly with the Grand Master Chan Kowk Wai. In 2012, Horacio Di Renzo presented him with the diploma of “trained professor” at the Academia Sino-Brasileira of Kung Fu in Sao Paulo.
