What really makes a person old ?  Is it wrinkles or is it the way you think and move ? Aging is a habit of tension and stressful responses that are learned and practiced unconsciously every day. The Feldenkrais Method works on the premise that it is the brain that organizes movement.  We will explore new strategies and unlearn some of those habits, learn to work smarter rather than harder with improved sensitvity and awareness. As a result you can then move with new vitality and ease and appear much younger than your chronological age.    

May 17 – Comfortable Sitting and turning in Chair, what a relief for the Neck, Shoulders, Back and Hips                       

Some people have a static idea of how to sit in a chair. Sitting on a chair can create lots of pressure on  the spine and discs and cause pain in the Back, Neck and Shoulders.     We will find  new ways of how to relate to a chair  which will help   you to sit more dynamically, sit taller in an easy and relaxed way.  Of course we will also do lessons on the floor !!!

May 24 – Joy of Walking 

You see a person at a distance, can’t recognize the face but you know who the person is by the way the walk.  Walking is a habit. Have you ever worn out a shoe or a sock more than the other parts ? You will learn to walk with many parts of your feet and discover the relationship to the way you habitually move your hips, knees back and your upper body. You’ll experience better balance and the joy of a more graceful, youthful walk . 

May 31 – Moving into Relaxation and Finding More Restful Sleep                                                                                   

Through very easy Movements you will find a pleasureable and comfortable way of releasing excess tension and stress and learn to take the path of least resistance to Relaxation and Restful Sleep.  

Brigette KawakamiBrigitte (Bebe) Kawakami was born in Austria, and grew up in a family where alpine hiking and downhill skiing were part of the physically active lifestyle. In 1976, Bebe came to the US, and eventually to Hawaii where she came to live and married a Hawaii born local.

Here in Hawaii, Brigitte was once hit by a car crossing the street and tossed in the air. She had back pains for over 25 years and tried Rolfing, chiropractic care, Pilates, yoga, and shiatsu massage…all helped, but only for a few days and the pain always came back.

Bebe discovered the Feldenkrais method with Eve Strauss in Honolulu and experienced relief. This led to further study and training with Jerry Karzen in Maui, and after practicing Feldenkrais for 8 months she was pain free. Her studies continued at the main Feldenkrais Institute in Vienna, Austria with Jeremy Krauss, Luci and Carl Ginsberg, and Miriam Pfeiffer, and she is now more agile than she was even as a child.

Bebe is a now a Guild Certified Feldenkrais ® teacher and is dedicated and passionate about the Feldenkrais method, and being a former kindergarten teacher, enjoys teaching ATM (Awareness Through Movement) lessons and One on One FI (Functional Integration) lessons.
