This is a Diwali Celebration of Light such as we’ve never experienced before! As always, we’ll enact the Ramayana epic behind this Indian holiday.
NOT as ever before, YOU can be one of the actors or performers, if you so choose, or you can be part of the online audience.
NOT as ever before, the characters will have their own lines to speak, rather than leaving all the storytelling to the Narrator.
NOT as ever before, since you’ll get to read your script during the enactment, we’ll only need two rehearsals before we go live!
NOT as ever before, we’ll count on you in the virtual audience to cheer and sigh and boo at all the appropriate spots. We’ll hold up signs to let you know when!
NOT as ever before, we’ll provide you with recipes to make yourself a (somewhat) simple Indian feast in advance, as well as contact info for any Indian restaurants in Honolulu that may be delivering at that time!
The Ramayana holds all elements of a daring adventure tale. The handsome prince Rama wins the princess Sita’s hand, only to be banished from his own kingdom by his stepmother. When the demon king Ravan uses deception to swoop down and steal a delightfully beautiful princess, the prince and his brother find unusual allies – such as the monkey hero Hanuman – to win her back. Rousing battle and delightful dancing adorns our telling of this age-old favorite of world stories.
