Contact Improv Lesson
March 13 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
$30 combo with Wave Continuum Dance Jam
This lesson gently guides you and fellow dancers to explore intuitive movement in physical contact with one another. In this free flow dance form the point of contact with the other dancer(s) initiates movement exploration. Practices can include brushing, rolling, going upside down, following a physical point of contact, as well as supporting and giving weight to a partner.
Contact Improv can be profound yet lighthearted, sometimes acrobatic yet safe, simple yet bold, sincere yet playful. Contact Improvisation can add newness, inspiration and a meditative, loving quality to your dancing selves.
Initiated in 1972 by American choreographer Steve Paxton and Nancy Stark Smith, Contact Improv continues to evolve as a system of movement. This dance form is based on the communication between two moving bodies in physical contact and their combined relationship to the physical laws that govern their motion, gravity, momentum, and inertia.
This lesson rolls into Wave Continuum Dance Jam at 7:15 pm! In Wave Continuum we use sounds and spiral movement to warm up. We’ll then enter into our own dance and/or a shared dance with others.
*Please wear comfortable clothing, preferably half or long sleeves and pants.
Eva Alewa Geueke
Eva (Honolulu / Cologne) practices the path of embodying the sacred through conscious movement and dance. Originally a professionally trained dancer who performed and made her own evening length dance pieces she ultimately felt that teaching will bring more healing and positive change into the world than performing.
After her Feldenkrais training and working intensively with Emily Conrad the founder of Continuum Movement and Susan Harper in the 80’s and 90’s she created Wave-Continuum. This beautiful healing movement practice opens the heart and connects the mover to the wisdom of life embedded in our fluid system of our cells and the universe. Undulating movement meditation, breath and sound bring this ancient awareness to the surface of our consciousness.
