This is Hawaii, so why not enjoy this beautiful dance from Buenos Aires in your stockings or socks? Tango is the joy of life put to music. It inspires expression from both partners in a form of primal, instinctive communication, not just a pre-set choreography of memorized steps.
Enjoy a tango lesson, a performance, and an evening in the flavor of Buenos Aires’ tango salons right here on Queen Street! No experience required, come as you are – dress up, dress down, and leave your shoes at the door!

Learn to Argentine Tango from one of the world’s most renowned instructors – George Garcia of Honolulu – he will be your teacher for the thirty minute tango quick start session at the Still & Moving Center’s Barefoot Ballroom! This class will emphasize the balance, posture, connection, basic movements, for the expression of Argentine Tango as it is danced in Buenos Aires, or Honolulu…
The Milonga ~ 7:30-10:00pm
Enjoy tango in the social tango format of Buenos Aires with the music of the famed past orchestras of the 40‘s: Pugliese, DiSarli, D’Arienzo, Troilo and all the great orchestras of tango as George Garcia hosts and DJs. Formatted with tandas (sets) of tangos, valses and milongas y cortinas to separate the tandas.

No experience necessary, singles welcome. Parking is at the corner complex on Queen and Kamakee Street. Register at the desk when you arrive. Leave your shoes at the door. Stockings or socks recommended. The spacious room features a gorgeous sprung dance floor of Big Island mango wood – a treat for the feet as well as a feast for the eyes.

George Garcia www.islatango.com has been teaching and performing dance for more than thirty years. For the past twelve years, he has devoted his passion exclusively to the art of the Argentine Tango, studying with the tango world’s finest master teachers. He teaches and performs at various tango events in the USA and abroad and was a featured performer in the 2006 and 2007 Tango Libertad Show in Japan, and serving as a judge of the Tokyo World Tango Festival Competition. More recently, as featured instructor and performer at various tango festivals in Japan, including the first Tokyo International Tango Festival, a benefit event for the survivors of the recent earthquake and tsunami victims. George is featured in Dance Vision USA’s 20-volume Ultimate Argentine Tango Instructional DVD Series. He is a DVIDA National Examiner, the highest caliber of instructor in the USA. He is the founder of Hawaii’s Argentine Tango community. In Honolulu, he presents his innovative Argentine Tango Boot Camps, runs weekly classes, gives workshops, private lessons and organizes workshops and events with visiting celebrity instructors.
