Awaken your body Sunday mornings with a healing movement practice. Using the principles and lessons from the Nia 5 Stages of Healing. Allow yourself time to slow down, explore your body’s anatomy, and restore your body from the inside out. Reconnect to five stages of human development – Embryonic, Creeping, Crawling, Standing and Walking. Ease your body into reclaiming its natural mobility, flexibility, strength, agility, and stability. Like yoga, much of the this practice is done on the floor, or smoothly and easily going down to and coming up from the floor. Modifications are made if your body is not ready to make it all the way down to the floor. In each session, Vicky will focus on a specific aspect of the human body as it relates to the whole. Reintroduce your body to yourself and learn and restore the beauty and dynamic ability of your body’s anatomical structure.
Vicky DeMercer will guide you through this experience. She has been a certified Nia instructor since 2009 and trained in the Nia Five Stages in 2011.
Session 1 (November 2): The 5 Sensations – Sense Flexibility, Agility, Mobility, Strength, and Stability. Tap into the five sensations responsible for maintaining functional fitness. Using your body, you will learn the unique qualities of each sensation in your body.
Session 2 (November 9): Becoming a Sensation Scientist – Listen to the voice of the the body. In this session, you will cultivate body awareness through all parts of the body (skin, joints, muscles, bones, etc.). You will use your body as a tool to enhance your well being. You will learn to listen to your body to make choices that make you feel better.
Session 3 (November 16): One by One – Refining Technique. Learn and refine each of the Nia Five Stages of Self Healing in your body – for your body. Move in spirals and relax all the way down to your bones in embryonic; sense the linear shape of creeping and how the left and right sides dance with one another; play with balance the your extended spine in crawling; understand how the previous stages have prepared your body for stand; bring in your own awareness to walking.
Session 4 (November 23): Breathing – Awareness of breath – the inhale and the exhale. You will pay attention to how your breath initiates and supports your movement in each of the Nia Five Stages of Self Healing. Find out how your body breathes naturally through gaining a sense of the relationship between your movement and your breathing.
Session 5 (November 30): Muscles – What keeps muscles healthy? Get to know the little engines that allow you to do everything from breathing to brushing your teeth. Play with your large muscles systems and your teeny, tiny muscles. Discover how your muscles are designed to work together.
