This is an extended class for students brand new to aerial yoga. We will take our time learning some of the basic poses and getting comfortable off the ground at a slow pace. The last part of class will include restorative suspended poses. Aerial Yoga uses the silk swing to support the weight of the body so we can attain optimal alignment in yoga asana. The apparatus allows us to decompress the spine while strengthening the core muscles. We gain access to deeper back bends and the ability to sustain challenging inversions Aerial yoga increases strength, flexibility and body awareness. In this workshop we will go over the foundation poses in detail with proper alignment and correct positioning of the hammock in order to get the most out of each pose. We will also break down some of the more advanced positions to make them more accessible to students just beginning their practice. Beginners welcome.
Wendi Lynch is a RYT-200, Unnata Aerial certified yoga instructor, having been a devoted student of yoga since 2002. She is continually expanding her knowledge of the architecture of the body and how it relates to the poses and the hammock. After falling in love with the trapeze arts in 2008 she naturally gravitated to aerial yoga, training with Michelle Dortignac, founder of Unnata Aerial Yoga, in 2010. The de-compressive qualities of the practice led her to a fluidity and depth of practice she had not experienced before.
