The objective of this workshop is to give Certified Aerial Yoga teachers the tools to instruct aerial conditioning and aerial interval classes. Bodyweight High Intensity Interval Training combined with Aerial Silks is a completely new and groundbreaking idea! The silks provide an unstable surface, which makes the body work harder. While big muscles do the work of large movement, the small stabilizer muscles are also recruited for stabilization, increasing proprioception. In this training we will be working with aerial hammocks.

High Intensity Interval Training is a very efficient and time-saving way to exercise. Taking the body to maximum exertion for short amounts of time (anaerobic zone) is beneficial to our hearts and provides better weight loss results than standard cardio programs. Interval training promotes muscle growth and fat loss at the same time.  Interval training is a part of natural human movement and has great hormonal benefits. It’s interesting, challenging… and over quickly!

Training with your bodyweight produce numerous benefits including the development of core strength, which allows us to perform any athletic activity more efficiently. Compound body weight exercises such as push-ups, lunges and chin-ups using the hammock are extremely effective for strength gains and performance improvements.  Practicing a wide variety of exercises using your bodyweight is a powerful way to improve athletic performance and prevent injuries. Aerial hammocks provide support for the body in numerous positions. This quality allows for a vast array of easily modifiable exercises. The bodyweight training can be easily adjusted to meet each student’s abilities and aspirations.

Stretching, lymphatic drainage, and all other benefits of aerial yoga greatly complement these hardcore workouts. Aerial Interval and Bodyweight Training is a wonderful addition to aerial student development. It builds strength and confidence which is vital to aerial dancers. This practice could be super beneficial to a yoga student, as it concentrates on the opposite characteristics of movement (strength, anaerobic zone) in comparison with yoga (flexibility, stability, breath), it offers variety and helps develop a strong all around movement practice.

Subjects that will be covered:

1. Proper warm-up  – benefits for the student and the teacher.

2. Assessing students, strengths, injuries, etc.

3. Exercise breakdown.

4. Structuring a class, tailoring a class to student’s needs, expectations/goal setting for the students
