The 5Rhythms® is a moving meditation dance practice which takes the participant through five rhythms: flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical and stillness. There are no dance steps, but the music and the teacher, act as a guide to movement. All level of abilities welcome.
Created by Gabrielle Roth and practiced by tens of thousands worldwide, 5Rhythms is rooted in the principle that if you put the psyche in motion it will heal itself. Movement is both the medicine and the metaphor, reaching across all languages, cultures and age groups, to transform suffering into art, art into awareness, and awareness into action. Wherever the 5Rhythms are practiced, a community is born to dance, to sweat, to change, to support, and to provide a safe space for each of us to awaken the juicy, fascinating, edge-walking, vibrant part of ourselves that yearns to be free. Originally from the UK, my first taste of conscious dancing was in Japan where I lived and worked as a yoga and English teacher for ten years. Having found the 5Rhythms in 2009 and completed the teacher training in 2014, I see the practice as a significant healing process which deepens our understanding of our relationships to self, partner and group. The dance floor is a microcosm and reflection of much larger aspects of our lives. This pathway has the potential and potency to open doors and leads to a rich community of people and support. Having a group of individuals share such a transformative space serves as a reminder of how we need people in our lives. The 5Rhythms is a life changing practice which grounds and connects to higher levels of conciousness, enabling us to move on and through difficulties and create the lives we most desire.
