SomaChi Yoga with Brie Putty
Fridays, 9:15 am
(Starts March 1st, 2019)
This fluid flow practice incorporates the elements of Somatics, TaiChi, and Vinyasa yoga. Class begins with visualization, then a thorough warm-up to prepare the body for more dynamic movement. Throughout the class, we use circular and rolling motions to release tension and free the movement. Typical Ashtanga vinyasa yogic techniques – including down dog, chaturanga, and up dog transitions – build strength in the legs, trunk of the body and arms.
SomaChi Yoga is about being in the movement rather than just merely doing it. It emphasises full body aliveness, embodiment, mindfulness, visualizations, energetic movement and working with chi. While holding respect for tradition and lineage, SomaChi is contemporary in nature.
Students enjoy the Brie’s clear, steady voice, the clarity of her movements as she demonstrates and the meditative quality she brings to her class. Coming from a background of arts and dance, Brie leads an inspiring, creative and playful practice.
To Brie, yoga is so much more than a physical practice; it is a way of life. Her yoga journey began in 2012 when she turned to yoga as a way to cope with her mother’s cancer. Although initially starting as an exercise practice, Brie quickly recognized that yoga was incredibly healing, not just to the body, but also to the mind and the heart.
Brie went on to study yoga in India and obtain her teacher training in Australia and the US. Fascinated by the ancient wisdom of yoga and meditation, she hopes through her teaching to transform the lives of others, helping them find their ground, fluidity and presence.
