This basically a two hour class spread over a couple one-hour classes.

Enjoy a shared moving meditation. Take this rare opportunity to learn from internationally performing dancers/dance teachers! Great training for sensitivity with others through movement.

6-7 pm Warmup, listening games to get the bodies and minds attentive, providing the culture and groundwork for Contact Improv Partnering. Concurrently, we will work through a series of tools and games to help free the mind to be available to make quick movement decisions.

7-8 pm Getting to know your dance partner through a variety of senses. Listening, joining a journey and suggesting a journey with another body you’re dancing with. Emphasis on how we communicate with our partner in movement rather than an obsession with how it looks. Chance to jam!

No need to bring a partner. Folks brand new to contact improv and folks who already love it are welcome!

Eddie Bruno Oroyan

Eddie feels most at home in Hawaii, growing up half his youth in Waipahu and is delighted to have the chance to spend a bit of time on the island again!

After an injury in late 2014, Oroyan began a practice of meditation and observation. His performing and studies have long included animal reflex training and proper response, but his new practice has and continues to teach him curiosity and awareness of the more subtle and delicate, the empathetic. After returning to performing and teaching, Oroyan is moved to explore and share these discoveries through the stage and classroom.

Oroyan is in his fifth year with Ultima Vez, having toured and performed primarily with What the Body Does not Remember and, currently, in the production of In Spite of Wishing and Wanting. He has also been working with Emmanuel Gat Dance since 2017 and is currently working on the project STORY WATER, that will premiere in Avignon, France in July. His experience spans Creach/Company, Shapiro & Smith, ARENA Dances, Zenon, Andrea Miller, and Roberto Olivan. He was a founding mover and an Artistic Associate for company Black Label Movement and continues as an active choreographer. His most recent collaborations presented at American Dance Festival 2014 (w/ Carl Flink) and Zürich Tanzt 2015 (w/ Rakesh Sukesh). Eddie presented a solo in 2016 at P12 Space in Brussels and is currently developing a duet with Natalia Pieczuro and Jessica Eirado Enes.

Jessica Eirado Enes

Jessica, born and raised in Italy, has worked with Compagnia Petrillo Danza, Compagnia Petranura Danza, as well as part of the acclaimed production “Requiem for Aleppo” at Sadlers Wells Theatre with choreography by Jason Mabana followed by a European tour. Jessica is now developing her own work, having recently created a dance piece called “È Vietato il Gioco Della Palla” supported by Ursino Buskers Festival of Catania and is also currently working on two separate duets with Marika Meoli and Eddie Bruno Oroyan.
